You just need to work on your ability to notice things. Enough said.

So its not possible, that I might have just missed a tiny animation on my character all this time?
Its only possible that im just being stupid and ignoring things?
I've already said I accept I missed it, and ok there is an animation! Do people really need to keep making snide comments for absolutely no reason?

Well... remember the agroo buble? Also called 'danger zone'?
It's your earshot range.
I would ONLY agree, and ONLY, to make everything aout of that range become dark.
Inside the aggro bubble, you can hear the enemy. But since we can't just rely on our ears, since people has to listen to allies and such, we'll let them see enemies.
That is, you are blinded, and everything out of your aggro bubble becomes pitch black, this can be easily done by putting the characters inside a black cylinder or sphere only they can see. Only long/simple bow user would be able to attack from the black but you'll be able to see the arrow, so it woul not be a proble, it would only lmit your possible tactics.
And this would give one interesting option: Find they target caller and blind him to gain some advantage.
Complete blinding, amking everything black is not an option.

this would be a staple [skill]sight beyond sight[/skill]
On the other hand, could make such a thing PvE only shut up...erm...I mean SATISFY some ppl here? I think it's a great idea myself although I admit it WOULD wreck havoc in PvP.
However, if the interface is not out one can still heal his mates via the party list unless the player is really blind (at which I'd be surprised that he even got out of the tutorial).
I would like to add to the OP's suggestion though. If you're hit with say [skill]throw dirt[/skill] then the screen would go black/darker, but if you're hit with [skill]blinding surge[/skill] or [skill]blinding flash[/skill] then the screen would go white, not black. The only time it would go black is if the character really dies.

yeah, the "special effects" would be too dramatizing to the game.
